Ricardo Ruiz Ruz.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Ricardo explores and perfects his art since he worked from 2004 to 2018 at Mosaika Art & Design, a world-renowned mosaic studio, where he learned, developed and perfected modern mosaic techniques, as well as artisanal style painting of ceramic tiles.
He’s been creating mosaic and ceramic tile art since 2012. Throughout his career, he’s specialized in custom glaze mixes and glazing techniques he’s infused with the artistry of a culinary chef, his professional background. His work is a meticulous and playful combination of science and art, permanently dynamic creations unique in conception and execution, as the mind, processes, materials, and atmospheres where they are forged are in a constant state of flux.
He’s a passionate 35mm photography hobbyist as well and explores the world of micro glaze textures through a macro lens.
He has worked and collaborated in many large-scale public mosaic works with renowned world artists. His work has been exhibited in Montréal, QC. and Hamilton, ON. He was a guest participant at The Montréal Museum of Fine Arts for the 2018 “Nuit Blanche” festival. He co-organized the 2018 Canadian Anual Mosaic Exhibit in Montréal, Canada.
He has been a mosaic instructor since 2013 and given workshops to individuals and large groups. In 2018 he opened a studio dedicated to ceramic and mosaic art: Montréal Mosaic Lab, where he hosts workshops of professional mosaic artists from all over the world and he continues to teach the art of mosaic. In his lab, he’s continually stimulating his ever-growing curiosity to explore and deepen his knowledge of the vast expanse of experimental ceramic glazes.
Montréal, Canada is the place he now calls home.
